How about some good news and a silver lining in these crazy times!
Geoff has an apprentice at Owl Furniture!
Madison, Geoff’s nephew, was studying violin making at Indiana University but he was interested in furniture making, too. When your uncle is Geoffrey Warner, master furniture maker, and you have an opportunity to learn from a master in his shop the next step is obvious. Madison and Geoff started talking about an apprenticeship here in Stonington in the Owl studio.
One of his first assignments was to add our Owl Furniture brand to the bottom of new seats. But that’s not all…there is plenty more to come. Madison has been doing lots of other jobs here, sanding, of course…we do lots of that. He is learning his way around the shop and how to safely use all the machinery. Madison is doing the finishing and oiling of Owl Stools and when you receive your new Owl it will probably be packed with care and sent on its flight by Madison. He is also shaping arms and here he is helping Geoff assemble Stonington Continuous Arm Chairs. There is never an end to tasks at the Owl Studio.
Madison came here from the mid-west and is learning about life in Maine. He was invited to a party on the beach last week. It was a beautiful summer evening; a slight breeze coming off the bay and the group threw some “lobstahs” in the pot and had a feast…just another beautiful day in paradise! He was wondering if you could every get tired of that!
